QMax has established a strong presence in Mexico and is present in all areas where Pemex drills for gas and oil. We recognized the value of the Mexican market from the beginning and carried out our first project 15 years ago. Since then, we have established offices in Ciudad del Carmen, Reynosa, Villahermosa, Poza Rica, Altamira, and Veracruz, and have built the most comprehensive infrastructure in the market for land and offshore bases, mud plants, and warehouses. QMax is the most experienced drilling fluid company in the country and has provided fluid products and services in more wells than anyone else. Over the last 15 years, we have developed local expertise and delivered many customized drilling solutions across the country in 1,940 wells for national and international oil companies. Experience has taught us exactly what our clients need to have a successful drilling operation, and we have invested our time, talent, and resources to build the reputation we have for offering consistent and reliable solutions.
What effect will the implementation of Mexico’s energy reform have on QMax’s current sales and projections in the country?
We expect our business to grow as the gas and oil sector in Mexico expands with the arrival of international partners who recognize, like us, the potential of such a dynamic market. Our onshore and offshore experience will be of great value to operators who are not familiar with the specific characteristics of this region. QMax entered the market early, entered an area with great potential, and took on the challenges of opening new businesses. We have had many opportunities to prove our worth. We believe our track record of success speaks for itself.
Drilling in Mexico can be very difficult due to the depth of the wells, high temperatures, and geology. What should be considered when choosing the right fluid to use?
There are many things to consider when selecting the right fluid to use in a well. After working in Mexico for as long as we have, QMax professionals have gained invaluable knowledge. The regional expertise that our local team has in each of the areas where our partners drill is one of our biggest advantages. We understand not only our clients’ needs but also the challenges of the formations we drill (including potential contaminants) and recognize the existence of environmental restrictions and other key factors to consider when developing a fluid program. We have helped companies choose the right fluid in many difficult drilling environments over our 15 years in the country and, in doing so, have accumulated great experience in Mexico.
How would you compare Mexico’s business environment to other countries in the Americas?
Mexico has seen a steady level of activity, higher than its neighbors. QMax recognized the scope of these opportunities from the beginning and worked to establish itself as a reliable partner that focuses on delivering value through service provision. Experience has taught us that Pemex demands a high level of service, but when exceptional service is delivered, there is reciprocity. In short, if you do a good job, you get more work.
What are QMax’s expectations for the future in Mexico and internationally?
Because QMax has experience and is established in Mexico, we are in a unique position and intend to leverage it by expanding our services, providing fluids and solids control to companies that are new to the Mexican market. Although Mexico is an area of interest for us because it is a large market for our products and services, our growth is not limited to that region. We are building our presence in North America and the Eastern Hemisphere. At a time when the number of rigs is decreasing, we believe there is an expanding market for what we offer and are very optimistic about our growth, both in the short and long term.
