Oman LNG Development Foundation has been committed to three mission statements that guide its operations. The primary mission is to produce and deliver LNG safely, reliably, and profitably. The second mission focuses on the development of human resources, while the third mission aims to contribute to the sustainability and economic development of Oman. These missions drive the allocation of resources, organizational structure, and competencies within the company. Since its establishment in 1994, Oman LNG has placed great importance on social responsibility and has dedicated 1.5% of its earnings after tax to social investment initiatives for the broader community. The company has been involved in various projects in fields such as healthcare, education, tourism, entrepreneurship, environmental preservation, and sustainability. Over the years, the 1.5% allocation has grown significantly due to the company’s operational excellence and commercial growth. To ensure effective governance and maximize the social return on investment, Oman LNG has established a comprehensive board that includes representatives from local communities, the public and private sectors, Oman LNG, and its shareholders. This approach is aimed at achieving solid control and delivering significant benefits to society. Oman LNG strives to be a responsible corporate citizen and aims to co-create value with the community that has hosted them for over two decades.

How does sustainability fit into the objectives of the Oman LNG Development Foundation, and can you highlight some of your CSR projects that promote sustainability?

Sustainability is a top priority for Oman LNG and is integrated across three dimensions: society, economy, and environment. In all the projects the company undertakes, these three elements are considered. The projects focus on meeting specific requirements and reaching a consensus on the deliverables and their social benefits. For example, efforts may be made to upgrade medical equipment to reduce patient waiting times or to improve accessibility to services, saving individuals commuting time. Oman LNG also extends extensive support to NGOs, aiming to enhance diversity and inclusion within society. One example is the company’s support to the Oman Cancer Association, which focuses on cancer treatment. Oman LNG has provided a mobile unit that can reach the entire community of Oman, promoting early diagnosis.

What are the main focal points of the Oman LNG Development Foundation’s Social Investment Programme?

The company’s social investment strategy has recently been revised to better align with Oman Vision 2040, the International Sustainability Goals, and the United Nations’ Social Development Goals (SDGs). Oman is committed to addressing climate change and other parameters within the SDGs, and while some may not directly relate to Oman as a whole, they are relevant to the industry. Oman LNG’s projects address areas that are of relevance to the country. Additionally, the foundation focuses on preparing school-aged children for the ongoing technological revolution by sponsoring events and competitions. Initiatives at the higher education level are also supported. For example, Oman LNG recently participated in the Green Hydrogen Summit in Oman, where university students presented their ideas in the field of innovative energy. Another significant project in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development is the inauguration of Oman’s first National Autism Center. The foundation is also involved in road safety education initiatives with the public sector. While the strategy sets the roadmap for their initiatives, Oman LNG is always ready to rise to ad hoc challenges as they arise.
