How did your business adapt in the context of COVID-19?

The year 2020 posed significant challenges, but we were fortunate to conclude it as one of our most robust and high-volume years to date. Overcoming these hurdles wasn’t easy. We had to swiftly react and adjust our operations to function effectively amidst a global pandemic. While implementing new safety measures was a priority, we also relied on specific construction strategies, like prefabrication, to ensure continuity in our projects. Prefabrication has been a key focus for us, offering increased efficiency, superior quality, reduced schedules, and safety enhancements. In 2020, we applied prefabrication extensively in one of our largest projects, mitigating operational impacts caused by COVID-19.

How can we enhance the representation of women in construction and engineering?

I’ve witnessed a slight but noticeable increase in women’s representation since I entered the industry. While it’s not a dramatic change, it’s a promising start. Encouraging diversity and inclusion is essential for our collective success. Moreover, the evolving technology within our industry is becoming increasingly appealing to younger generations, aiding in attracting new talent.

What are your primary objectives and priorities for 2021?

Our safety program, Live Safe, initiated in 2019, remains a core focus. Ensuring the safety of our team members not only on project sites but also within their homes with their families is paramount. The impact of COVID-19 has underscored the significance of this goal. Additionally, maintaining projects in the pipeline is crucial. As we entered 2021, the level of new project activity has surged, a trend we anticipate to continue or even accelerate. Collaboration between the Carolinas and robust public-private partnerships have been beneficial. Rodgers has been privileged to participate in numerous partnerships in Charlotte and Raleigh that have contributed to community growth and development.
