Could you tell us about the history and mission of Petroleum & Gas University?
Petroleum & Gas University has a rich history of serving the energy industry for over 70 years. The university was originally founded in Bucharest, but in 1967 it was relocated to Ploiesti to be closer to the industry, including refineries and petrochemical plants in Prahova County. This proximity allowed students to gain practical experience throughout their learning years, which has been a significant advantage. Currently, we have three engineering faculties in the field of oil and gas that have been operating since the university was founded. Additionally, we have recently added two new faculties: the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the Faculty of Letters and Sciences. Our mission is to provide high-quality education and training to students and prepare them for successful careers in the energy industry.
How does Petroleum & Gas University contribute to the energy industry in Romania and beyond?
Our university plays a critical role in providing skilled workers for the energy industry in Romania and beyond. Our graduates are in high demand due to the industry’s continuing growth and development. In addition to providing high-quality education, we also conduct research in collaboration with the industry to find new and innovative solutions to challenges facing the sector. We have established partnerships with companies and institutions both locally and internationally to enhance the quality of our research and provide opportunities for our students to gain practical experience. Our focus on research and development ensures that we are preparing students for the challenges of the future and equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the industry.
What are some of the challenges facing Petroleum & Gas University in the current environment?
Like many institutions, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for us in terms of maintaining academic continuity and ensuring the safety of our students and staff. However, we have been able to adapt and overcome these challenges through the use of technology and implementing safety protocols. Another challenge we face is the changing energy landscape and the need to keep up with the latest developments and technologies. We strive to stay ahead of the curve by incorporating the latest research and industry practices into our curriculum and research projects. Additionally, we face the challenge of attracting and retaining top talent in the face of increased competition from other universities and industries.
How is Petroleum & Gas University addressing the changing needs of the energy industry?
As the energy industry evolves and shifts towards renewable energy and sustainable practices, we recognize the need to adapt and provide our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this changing landscape. We are constantly evaluating and updating our curriculum to ensure that it is relevant and responsive to the needs of the industry. Additionally, we have established partnerships with companies and institutions involved in renewable energy to provide our students with practical experience and exposure to the latest technologies and practices. We are committed to preparing our students for the challenges of the future and ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the ever-changing energy industry.
