What circumstances led to the creation of PMG Wind, and what does its portfolio include presently?
We entered the renewable industry by chance. In my previous business, I had a small share in a Chinese factory that produced front loaders, and they sent me a wind turbine as a gift. Although its performance was low, I was intrigued by the idea and decided to switch our business focus to renewables. Currently, our portfolio includes wind turbines, solar panels, and hybrid systems. We have the capability to build wind turbines from scratch and offer energy efficiency analysis, customized solutions, and evaluation of consumption patterns. We already have a diverse portfolio and are developing new products as well.
PMG Wind has its own production capacity in Cluj. What proprietary products are developed there?
We developed our first proprietary product, a generator, at the beginning of our journey. It took us 3-4 years of trial and testing, but we managed to build the generator entirely from scratch without external help or funding, which is a source of great pride for us. The generator is specifically designed for green energy applications and performs exceptionally well in wind and hydro production. For wind energy, we achieved the lowest starting speed for turbine production, and our generators exhibit excellent resistance even in areas with intense winds. Additionally, we created a hybrid system that combines wind turbines and photovoltaic panels to mitigate risks associated with renewable energy production. We extended the warranty to 25 years, providing a competitive advantage in the local market.
The company is very active on international markets. What does your geographical footprint look like at this point?
Approximately 70% of our production is exported outside of Romania, and this percentage continues to grow. We have a strong presence in Europe, including countries like Belgium, Norway, Poland, and Turkey. Additionally, we have found Africa to be a promising market. Rather than having a direct presence in these countries, we collaborate with dealers and establish partnerships, such as with Turn2Power. Working in diverse locations poses challenges, as we need to adapt our configurations to specific climates. Understanding the country-specific requirements allows us to provide personalized solutions and ensure optimal efficiency.
How have the fluctuations in the local renewables industry affected PMG Wind’s business?
We primarily focus on residential projects, small businesses, and agricultural farms, which were untapped areas when we started. Hence, we were fortunate to be less affected by market instability. However, I believe there is a need for more stable legislation and long-term vision for the renewable energy industry in Romania. The country has tremendous potential for wind and solar energy. Furthermore, educating the population about the value and long-term savings of green energy investments is crucial. Simple and direct communication can help change the lack of understanding among people in Romania.
What does the company aim to achieve in the coming two to three years?
Last year, we tripled our production capacity, but we still anticipate challenges in meeting demand over the next two years. Therefore, expanding our capacities and increasing the number of units produced are among our goals. We are also working on adding new products to our portfolio. In terms of markets, we plan to consolidate our presence in Europe and Africa and expand into the United States. Romania remains important to us as well, given the country’s production potential, quality of products, and highly skilled workforce.
