Can you give us an update on ESCO Brazil’s main milestones over the past two years?
Despite Brazil’s economic struggles in 2012, ESCO has seen significant growth and success, including the opening of a factory in Carajás and a production facility in Sorocaba, as well as the launch of a new fleet of mobile service trucks. These developments have allowed us to expand our product portfolio and better serve our mining clients in the northeast region.
In a crowded marketplace, how does ESCO differentiate itself from the competition?
ESCO stands out by investing in innovation and sustainability, and by fostering close, long-term relationships with our customers. We listen to our clients’ needs and modify our services accordingly, and we provide extensive aftermarket care and extra services to deliver value beyond just selling products.
How important is research and development to ESCO’s operations in Brazil?
Research and development is a fundamental pillar of ESCO’s corporate philosophy, and we have some of the best engineers in the country working to improve our existing product lineup and develop new solutions for our clients. Brazil’s development center plays an important role in contributing new designs and technical projects to our global operation.
How does ESCO Brazil prioritize sustainability initiatives?
Sustainability is a cornerstone of ESCO’s operations both globally and locally. In Brazil, we participate in Vale’s Carbon Disclosure Project, recycle all waste generated at our facilities, and have agreements with environmental management companies to reuse our scrap metal. We also prioritize worker safety as a crucial aspect of running a sustainable company, and ESCO Brazil has one of the lowest incident rates in the industry.
Can you describe the impact of the current boom in the northeast region of Brazil on ESCO?
The growth of the mining sector and infrastructure projects in the northeast region of Brazil has provided many business opportunities for ESCO. With the opening of our new plant in Carajás, we are strategically located to take advantage of this boom and are ready for the expected increase in demand. We are also prepared for the effects that the release of the new mining code will have in Brazil, as it should release a wave of new investment across the country.
What is your vision for the future of ESCO Brazil?
Our long-term goal is to celebrate 100 years of operations in Brazil. To achieve this, we aim to maintain our competitive advantage by staying ahead of the industry, anticipating the needs of our customers, and refining our solutions in terms of products and services. When the long-anticipated mining boom arrives, we will be ready to provide our customers with the high quality of service that they expect from us.
